This world is not what you think it it. These towers of steel and glass that we as human use to impose order on nature, on ourselves.
They are a hollow beauty.
Empty desire.
Not feud.
A testament to our impotence.
You clean, you wash,
You fit a social straight-jacket over your tiny shoulders, a harness on which to yoke the weight of the world.
You smile, you walk down these moving metal stairs in into the concrete tombs, rat-like tunnels that connect one soulless suburb to another.
You weep in the privacy of your own home.
Curtains drawn against a light that burns an illuminated soul
When you die, the money that you amassed will be wasted on government taxes and luxury items by your ungrateful spawn.
When you die, the kids that you abandoned and spouse that you rejected will mount the loss of what could have been.
Your son will never visit your grave.
Will never tell stories about his old man.
About learning to swim,
Or riding a bike.
Because you were not there.
My old man lived his life the best he could.
Made good friends, even better enemies.
He wasn’t perfect, at times he was barely good
But he never told me lie.
His truths, they hurt, scar tissue around a wounded soul
That healed, and made stronger spirit.
